Job Description

Anthropologie is looking for an exceptionally talented Art Director who can craft compelling visual narratives, and generate ideas and images that resonate with our customer. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly creative, award-winning in-house design team.

You love thinking conceptually, creating beautiful imagery, and collaborating with a passionate team whose goal is to inspire, provoke and amaze.  You have a proven ability to motivate those around you with your vision and dedication to excellence.  You will play a key role working with the Creative Director and Senior Art Director to determine the overall look and feel of our brand and will collaborate with merchandisers, graphic designers and our internal production team to propel our catalog to new heights.

You must have a compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates your creative vision and photographic eye. You must likewise possess the knowledge and experience to execute your ideas to an exacting standard. You will have the opportunity to work within one of the most respected creative brands in the country and to cultivate working relationships with exceptional photographers, stylists and set designers. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Art Direction

  • Staying abreast of and maintain a deep knowledge of photographic and design trends. Proactively share information with brand leaders and staff.
  • Creating and pulling resource material for concepts and mood boards to clearly communicate ideas.
  • Translating merchandising and marketing strategies to creative execution. Driving the process from concept to creative to final execution with ease.  
  • Managing and directing catalogue photo shoots, both fashion and still life.
  • Editing film, directing design of page layout, directing typographic treatments, creating story sequencing and working with merchandisers on overall pagination.
  • Sourcing and organization of high level talent and resources to meet creative needs within established budgets.
  • Inspiring and providing direction and leadership for our internal design team and external talent.
Required Skills
  • Significant experience art directing complex fashion and still life shoots for a minimum of 4 years.
  • A willingness and desire to re-examine what you know in order to continually challenge your creativity.
  • Strong concept development and excellent typographic and graphic design ability.
  • Proven ability to combine conceptual, creative and strategic thinking with tactical execution.
  • Desire and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and to effectively lead work on multiple projects in various phases and under tight deadlines.
