Job Description

The Program Chair is responsible for supervision of the Health Information Technology program at an ITT Technical Institute and serves as a technical expert on program curriculum at the institute.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements student retention strategies.
  • Conducts regular curriculum implementation meetings with faculty and recommends improvements in curriculum design.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for students, instructional staff and advisory committees regarding academic curriculum and technical information.
  • Coordinates with Associate Dean to conduct instructor conferences and professional development sessions.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Curriculum and Academic Affairs management to implement new program curricula.
  • Oversees hiring, training, development, supervision and performance of faculty.
  • Assist with student problem resolution, implementing policies and procedures, and student orientation and advising.
  • Maintains teaching assignments as scheduled.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education required, Master's degree preferred.
  • RHIA or RHIT certification required.
  • Must have a minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework in the subject area. The required level of academic preparation may be higher in some states.
  • Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience in field of specialty, including 2 years of related teaching experience in a post-secondary accredited institution.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Internet, and course management software.
  • Demonstrated creative, innovative, problem solving skills.
  • Proven track record of project completions.
  • Past history of developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
  • Able to obtain and maintain licenses if applicable as required by state or accrediting commissions.
