Job Description

As an Online Instructor, you will be responsible for instructing students online and by phone according to program objectives and course syllabi.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaches material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule.
  • Assists students through online discussions and by telephone in achieving completion objectives.
  • Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process, including but not limited to class discussions, discussion threads, outside assignments, research, enrichment activities, etc.
  • Exercises and insures students' proper online decorum to effect a positive learning environment.
  • Maintains and reports student grades and participation.
  • Completes professional development and in-service activities in accordance with college standards.
  • Maintains expertise in subject area.
  • Provides regular, accurate and timely feedback to students relative to their performance.
Required Skills
  • Minimum 3 years applicable experience and 15 semester hours in courses such as sociology, world culture and economics and previous post-secondary experience teaching, preferably online.
  • Masters degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education, preferably in Sociology required.
  • Subject matter competency.
  • Knowledge demonstrated by academic records, practice, and/or field work in critical thinking, quantitative and descriptive research.
  • Possess knowledge and experience with virtual libraries.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
  • Ability to perform moderate to complex computer function using MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Explorer, Internet browser, Outlook Exchange, and web search engines.
  • Certification in on-line teaching helpful, but not required.
  • Must have a current Windows-based PC at your home (minimum specs: 64 MB RAM and 1.2 GB free space on hard drive, Windows XP or higher, MS Office, Internet Explorer 5.X, email with file attachment capabilities).
  • High speed internet service (DSL, cable modem, or ISDN) in your home required.
