Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position responds to and works to fix any track, roadway, or right-of-way facility condition that slows or stops the movement of trains for his/her assigned territory. Strives to provide high quality work while minimizing delays and costs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education: 

*High School diploma required; two years of college preferred

*Must complete FRA Track Safety Standards class

 Experience:

*Six years experience in track experience

*Experience managing teams in multiple locations

*Knowledge of FRA, KSC, State and Local laws, regulations and ordinances on railroad construction and maintenance of way.

 Skills:

*Strong leadership skills

*Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office

 

JOB DUTIES:

*Provides maintenance to mainline track, adjacent yards, sidings, branch, and industry lines

*Investigates derailments and injuries to ascertain the facts and prevent reoccurrence

*Meets with Trainmasters to assure track conditions meet standards

*Manages slow orders and develops a plan for removal in a swift and timely manner

*Works with governmental agencies to shut down and rebuild road crossings

*Coordinates gangs and material delivery planning and scheduling

*Requests work curfews from the STC

*Supervises the contractor cars (e.g., rail test, geometry, grinder, spray trucks, spray trains).

*Oversees and inspects production gangs on a day-to-day basis.

*Ensure gangs are on the assigned route for the day

*Ensures gangs have material and equipment to perform the daily task(s)

*Prepares estimates and works to stay in budget; schedules Maintenance of Way projects

*Plans and implements maintenance process according to KCS standards, policies and procedures

 *Ensures safe working conditions, full compliance of safety rules, and good housekeeping practices]

*Investigates all accidents and reports the results to appropriate individuals

*Complies fully with labor relations and human resources management policies and agreements

*Orders material and seeks approval for contractors’ bill payment; does SAP requisitions

 

OTHER:

*Works with other Engineering departments on projects or day-to-day activities

*On-call 24/7/365; Able to work in extreme weather conditions
