Job Description

 

STG International is currently accepting resumes for (5) Nurse Practitioners and (2) Physician Assistants to provide services at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX.

 

STG International is in an active bidding process for this position(s) and position availability is contingent upon STG International, Inc. being awarded the contract.  The contract award is scheduled to be announced on/around late fall 2009. 

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

 

  • The contract provider shall perform all procedures commonly performed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Physician Assistant (PA). These shall be essentially the same duties as those required of any Medical Corps Officer or government civil service provider of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.  Some of the more common diagnoses/conditions the contract provider can expect to encounter are the following:

 

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Otitis Media/Externa
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Viral Syndrome
  • Pharyngitis (strep and viral)
  • Tonsillitis
  • Vominating and Diarrhea
  • Acid Reflux Disorders
  • Urine Tract Infections
  • Skin Rashes
  • Sprains, Strains, and Fractures
  • Medication Refills

 

  • Other duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Provide medical examination, care, and treatment to MTF patients.

 

  • Provide medical care and treatment of communicable diseases and/or injuries.

 

  • Conserve health of patients by application of diversified knowledge of preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical and surgical procedures.

 

  • Seek advice of consultants when appropriate.

 

  • Instruct and monitor other medical personnel in care and treatment of patients to include non-therapeutic services such as physical examinations.

 

  • Initiate requests for tests, x-rays, and admissions to the medical treatment facility, as appropriate.

 

  • Follow-up on abnormal reports.  Abnormal x-ray and lab reports received on patients seen by contract provider shall be reviewed by the contract provider at the time these reports are available for review.  Each report shall be reviewed within one week of its receipt.

 

  • Prescribe medications, as appropriate, in accordance with the privileges and MTF rules and regulations.

 

  • Prepare and document appropriate history physical examinations, and diagnosis.  Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with MTF directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy.  Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and complete.

 

  • Review medical histories and progress of patients.  Examine patients, make diagnosis of disease, disaster, or injury, and treat patient or prescribe a course of treatment.  Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.

 

  • Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate

 

  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate

 

  • Make preliminary interpretation of radiographs to include MRIs and CT scans

 

  • Advise the chief of the clinic where contracted services are being provided of any problems encountered or anticipated in connection with meeting the needs of patients treated.  Continuing problems of any nature shall be reported by the contractor in writing to the COR.

 

  • Refer all requests for patient/hospital information that cannot be handled by the clinic personnel to the Patient Administration Division (PAD). After normal duty hours, requests should be referred to the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) or appropriate authorized personnel. Neither the contractor nor the contract provider shall release medical information without prior coordination with the PAD/AOD.

 

  • Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program at all times while providing services under this contract.

 

  • Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all Joint Commission standards.

Required Skills

The Nurse Practitioner shall:

 

  • Be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or for specialty practice such as the National Certification Corporation (NCC) in the area of practice.

 

  • Be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner, the candidate must meet the education and training necessary to be a registered nurse , with a master’s degree, and must have completed training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions.

 

  • Possess a minimum of two years experience as a Nurse Practitioner with one year in a clinical setting within the last two years.

 

  • Possess and maintain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Program (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). These certifications must be obtained through the American Heart Association (AMA)/ or Red Cross approved training program.

 

  • Be able to read, write and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and MTF staff.

 

  • U.S .Citizenship (copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers required).  Legal aliens who possess a green card, who are in compliance with U.S. Immigration Laws, and who meet the qualifications required herein, may perform under the delivery order.  No alien shall be allowed to perform under this delivery order in violation of the Immigration Laws of the United States.  In addition, the Government shall not be held liable for not allowing performance under this delivery order by a contractor employee who fails to comply with, or to maintain, the citizenship or legal alien status requirements stated herein.

 

The Contract Physician Assistant shall:

 

  • Possess a Physician Assistant degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee- Physician Assistant.

 

  • Physician Assistant shall have a minimum of two or more years experience as a Physician Assistant. Must be able to see and treat children.

 

  • Contract provider shall read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently and maintain good communication skills with patients and other healthcare personnel.

 

  • The contract provider shall be eligible for U. S. employment.    A notarized copy of the birth certificate or naturalization papers shall be required when applying for privileges.  Legal aliens that possess a green card are in compliance with United States immigration laws, and meet the qualification may provide services under this contract.  No alien shall be allowed to provide services under this contract in violation of the Immigration Laws of the United States.  Furthermore, the Government shall not be held liable for ceasing/stopping performance under this contract by a contract provider that fails to comply with/maintain their citizenship or legal alien status requirements.

 

  • Be board certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physicians Assistants.

 

  • Possess and maintain an active National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) certification.

 

  • Possess and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). These certifications must be obtained through the American Heart Associated and/or Red Cross approved training program.

 

  • Shall remain current and achieve required continuing education units.  Contract provider is responsible for maintaining CME at no additional cost to the Government.
