Job Description

STG International is currently accepting resumes for (4) full time Emergency Room Registered Nurses and (2) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to provide services at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA.

 

STG International is in an active bidding process for these position(s) and position availability is contingent upon STG International, Inc. being awarded the contract.  The contract award is scheduled to be announced on/around late summer or fall 2009. 

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

Emergency Room Registered Nurses

 

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages using the nursing process and in accordance with ANA and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Perform assigned duties with regard to all eligible beneficiaries, regardless of underlying disease process or physical condition of such patients or beneficiaries.
  • Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF Standard Operating Procedures, Federal Law, or Army Regulation. All written reports/documentation shall be legible and shall be considered property of the US Government.
  • Maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships and rapport with patients, families, staff members and visitors at DDEAMC.
  • React with alertness and skill in any emergency situation, e.g., cardiac or respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, severe physical trauma and psychiatric reaction. Serves as member of resuscitation team.
  • Assess patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises. Distinguish between normal and abnormal physical findings (from physical assessment and vital sign assessment). Plan appropriate nursing care.
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.
  • Document plan of care and the care given in patient's medical record.
  • Utilize appropriate nursing personnel (military 91W personnel) to assist in delivery of care when indicated.
  • Transcribe or verify transcription of physician orders.
  • Carry out prescribed physician orders and document in patient's medical record.
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Re-assess patient's condition and revise plan-of-care based on identified nursing problems.
  • Possess knowledge of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs, anticipated results, usual dosages, and their location on the crash cart.
  • Administer medications safely, using the five rights of medication administration.
  • Assess and document patient response to medications administered.
  • Instruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that must be accomplished.
  • Give inhalation therapy treatments, with knowledge of medications utilized in this treatment and reactions.
  • Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding.
  •  Operate defibrillator, EKG machine and cardiac monitor.
  • Interpret pertinent lab values and report critical lab values to physicians.
  • Use electronic thermometers, infusion and Patient Controlled Analgesia pumps.
  • Participate in Discharge Planning as appropriate.
  • Provide nursing care to a group of patients with other individuals assisting him/her, which may include making patient care assignments.
  • Be able to initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Identify impending or existing emotional or psychiatric crisis and provide appropriate intervention.
  • Provide comprehensive nursing services within the professional scope of practice for a variety of medical diagnoses and for all ages in an Emergency Department environment.
  • Perform basic and advanced cardiac life support procedures.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications by oral, sublingual, topical, rectal, 1M, subcutaneous and intradermal routes.
  • Perform arterial puncture for blood gases.
  • Prepare and administer medication during resuscitative efforts.
  • Initiate IV access for IV therapy. Prepare and administer IV fluids.
  • Perform triage for routine and mass casualty situations.
  • Clean, irrigate wounds and apply reinforce or remove wound dressing using septic techniques.
  • Provide patient education/instruction on a one-on-one basis with patient or patient family member regarding medications, treatment, follow-up, dressing changes and other nursing care.
  • Set up, operate and monitor specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, respirators, defibrillators, etc.
  • Ensure that all Joint Commission standards for professional nursing care are met during performance of care.
  • Complete appropriate medical record forms in compliance with EAMC guidelines and policies for each patient.
  • Verify the content and correctness of all recorded entries in the patient record.   All documentation/records/reports must meet or exceed established EAMC standards to include, but not limited to: timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, and signature. The outpatient record shall be completed the same day the patient is seen.

 

 

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  

  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.
  • Perform quality control checks and operator maintenance for a variety of patient care equipment.
  • Assist in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care.
  • Document care given and patient response in the medical record.
  • Prepare patient for physical examination. 
  •  Carry out prescribed nurse, nurse practitioner and physician orders and document in patient medical record.
  • Retrieve and enter pertinent data in all work place applicable Computer Based Information Systems. Communicate pertinent patient data to the appropriate provider in a timely and professional manner.
  • Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used ambulatory clinic drugs and record in medical record.
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate resuscitative measures.
  • Assist in patient family education regarding prescribed procedures.
  • Assess patient family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient family demonstrated level of understanding
  • Assure content and correctness of a prepared reports and sign document to validate content.  Assists with transfer and exchange of medical information with consultative services internal and external to DDEAMC while ensuring compliance with HIPAA.
  • Participate in monitoring quality of care according to professional standards and established procedures.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding clinic services and/or follow-up ancillary reports.  Utilize hospital information systems to enter and retrieve data; to create and edit profiles, templates, and schedules; to schedule, cancel and/or reschedule patient appointments; to review, edit, and update patient demographic data; check-in scheduled and walk-in patients; complete End-of-Day processing for health care providers; order outpatient medical records as needed.
  • Assist with clinic/MTF related administrative tasks.
  • Administer oxygen, intravenous fluids, and prescribed enteral, topical, injectable, and intraveneous medications in accordance with DDEAMC policy.
  • Assist in training, education, orientation and precepting of assigned personnel.
  • Prepares and administers routine immunizations to adult patients.
  • Assist with ambulatory procedures to include PAP smears, skin biopsies, toe nail removals, minor lesion removal and sutures, and other minor procedures. Adheres to hospital infection control policies.
  • Complies with all established clinic, department and hospital policies.

Required Skills

Emergency Room Registered Nurse

 

Qualifications: Each RN shall:

 

  • Hold a Diploma, Associates Degree (AD) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an NLN accredited program, college or university and hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) a BSN is preferred.
  •  Have been actively practicing as a registered nurse for the past two years.
  •  Be capable of providing comprehensive nursing care to adult and pediatric patients.
  •  Have and maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are preferred.
  •  Have documentation of required continuing education in Fire, Safety and Infection Control.
  •  Have no health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with the performance of assigned duties.
  •  Have documented training and skills verification.
  •  Have proof of U.S. citizenship (certified copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers) or a valid U.S. Immigration form 1-151 and Alien Registration Card ('green card') for each RN. No alien shall be allowedto perform under this agreement in violation of the Immigration Laws of the United States.

 

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

 

 

  • Possess a valid, current license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending

adverse actions) to practice nursing as a LPN and be licensed to practice as a LPN in at least one state in the United States. All licenses must be unemcumbered and remain in effect during contract employment.

  •  Have and maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified by the

 American Heart Association (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) or American Red Cross (CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer). 

  •  Specialty Requirements:   In addition to the requirements set forth above, all contractors LPNs shall:
  •  Have been actively practicing as a licensed practical nurse for at least one year within the past two years. Be capable of providing comprehensive nursing care to adult and pediatric medical and surgical patients.
  •  Have documentation of required continuing education in Fire, Safety and

Infection Control.

  •  Have no health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with the performance of assigned duties. 
  •  Have documented training and skills verification.
