Job Description

STG International is currently accepting resumes for a full time Neuropsychologist to provide services at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam, Houston, TX.

 

STG International is in an active bidding process for this position(s) and position availability is contingent upon STG International, Inc. being awarded the contract.  The contract award is scheduled to be announced on/around late summer or fall 2009. 

 

The responsibilities are the following:

 

  • Attend and participate in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: Quality Improvement meeting, professional staff meetings, Commander’s staff meetings, Department meetings, and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance or as directed by the Chief, Department of Behavioral Medicine or his/her designated representative.

 

  • Responsible for and applies psychological procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, mental status evaluations and command directed mental health evaluations, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychological testing/psychodiagnostic testing, in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological and neuropsychological disorders (Neuropsychological assessments for baseline, diagnostic and treatment-planning purposes). Activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Conduct clinical interviews of patients, formulate diagnostic impression and recommendations for treatment/case disposition.

 

  • Conduct clinical neuropsychological evaluations of patients with traumatic brain injuries for the purpose of treatment planning, setting rehabilitation goals, making determinations about patient safety issues, and monitoring rehabilitation progress.  Administer, score, and interpret neuropsychological and personality tests and write written reports.  

 

  • Conduct clinical neuropsychological evaluations of patients for purposes of determination of fitness for duty or medical board disposition. Administer, score, and interpret neuropsychological and personality tests and write evaluation reports.

 

  • Conduct brief neurocognitive and personality evaluations of patients and write evaluation reports.

 

  • Lead meetings with patient and family members to provide feedback on the results of neuropsychological evaluations and recommendations.

 

  • Participate in multidisciplinary traumatic brain injury team meetings to develop treatment plans and rehabilitation interventions for patients. 

 

  • Lead multidisciplinary team conferences with patients and family members to develop rehabilitation goals and monitor treatment progress. 

 

  • Develop treatment protocols for cognitive rehabilitation interventions within the traumatic brain injury service.  Develop educational resources for distribution to patients.

 

  • Coordinate care and attend meetings and conference calls (in person and telephonically) with rehabilitation professionals from civilian, academic and/or ancillary institutions including DoD and VA hospitals seeing traumatic brain injured patients to facilitate coordination of care.

 

  • Attend off-site rehabilitation treatment initiatives on weekends and evenings for continuity of care and to assist patients with reaching rehabilitation goals.

 

  • Provide brief psychotherapy services to patients.

 

  • Provide neuropsychological services to both outpatient and inpatient brain-injured populations.

 

  • Clinical supervision of neuropsychological technician on test administration, scoring, maintenance of accurate patient records.  Ensure completion of administrative tasks as required by Department of Behavioral Medicine. 

 

  • Schedule patient appointments, follow-up appointments, reschedule in the case of cancellation.

 

  • Provide consultation in the area of expertise of psychology and neuropsychology to other staff members in the Department of Behavioral Medicine, to staff members of other disciplines within the hospital, to legal authorities and to commanders.

 

  • Participate in clinical research activities on traumatic brain injury and neurorehabilitation for the purpose of improving patient care, tracking patient workload, and providing command briefings when requested.

 

  • Communicate and coordinate with administrative personnel as needed for medical board cases and temporary disability retirement list personnel.

 

  • Assist and participate in special event informational seminars.

 

  • Maintain accurate and current notes in both the Department of Behavioral Medicine records and patient medical records of all patients seen, as appropriate, and produces reports of evaluation and/or treatment, as required.

 

  • Performs tasks related to the Graduate Education Program (GE) to include teaching and supervisory of clinical caseload of interns, residents, and fellows, and other duties as required by the Graduate Education Program.

Required Skills
  • Have a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA approved psychology program (or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army). Shall have completed an APA approved internship/residency in clinical or counseling psychology (or an internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army).

 

  • Must be either completed a neuropsychology fellowship or be board-certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Must be a licensed psychologist and must be qualified by training to conduct neuropsychological evaluations.  Must be a licensed psychologist and must be qualified by training to conduct neuropsychological evaluations.

 

  • Have and maintain a current license to practice psychology in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin islands.

 

  • Have completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical or counseling psychology or have completed a minimum of one (1) year of supervised experience in clinical or counseling psychology acceptable to the MTF.

 

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years post-doctoral experience within the past five (5) years in the practice of psychology in the area of clinical or counseling psychology, preferably in a Government setting such as a Department of Defense (DOD) or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MTF.  Prior experience working with physicians providing pain management services is preferred.

 

  • Knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of clinical or counseling psychology programs.

 

  • Have and maintain a current certificate in basic cardiac life support (BCLS).

 

  • Demonstrate computer literacy sufficient to operate a personal computer utilizing psychological tests, word processing, database and spreadsheet programs, and posses a basic typing skill sufficient to efficiently produce the psychologist’s own reports and correspondence. Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform the tasks identified in this work statement.
