The Jackson Laboratory, located in Bar Harbor, Maine, seeks a Senior Director of Laboratory Animal Health Services who will strategically position the Lab as the world leader and standard setter in lab animal quality and well-being. The incumbent leads a team of professionals ensuring the highest standard of care for its laboratory animals and providing expertise in laboratory animal science, medicine, pathology, diagnostics and QA/QC. S/he assures that laboratory animals are humanely cared for and handled and provides logical, consistent guidance regarding facility design, environmental conditions, and animal room procedures (e.g., animal handling, cage changes, preventive room disinfection) to JAX Mice & Services, the Research Animal Facility, and the Repository. The successful applicant assures health and welfare practices are consistent with all relevant regulations and guidelines and maintains AAALAC accreditation and OLAW certification. S/he represents the Laboratory as one of the world’s most respected and forward looking voices pertaining to the care and use of animals in research. This professional also oversees the Laboratory-wide QA/QC program.

Should possess a doctorate in veterinary medicine or PhD in related field; 2-3 years of post doctoral training in laboratory animal medicine; up-to-date knolwedge of regulatory requirements pertaining to animal research and production and 3-5 years of experience in murine medicine, biology and care. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include comprehensive benefits and relocation package. Incumbent should have board certification in ACLAM or other relevant veterinary specialty and be eligible for veterinary licensure and USDA certification in the State of Maine.
